Life Story Nubian Boy

PROJECT 3VA0031

Comprehensive model of socioeconomic restoration for the displaced population, in the city of Cali

We come from the neighborhood "Los Pinos de Mondomo" in Cauca. Our relationship with the people who live close to us was very good, until we had to leave our farm.

We met twenty-three years ago, when I left my house -Otoniel- to look for work, in a village where she lived, called Las Lajas. We went to live together first on the farm where she lived and then on my dad's. It was there that we had our children and made our home.

As a consequence, we had to leave the farm, for not collaborating as informants to groups outside the law. The family was destabilized because we had nothing in Cali. But one of Otoniel's sisters gave us a place to stay and work in a small jean factory. This allowed us to learn about the business after two years, we could move with it and become business partners.

The project has allowed us to train and has given us tools to advance in the goals we have. Now we want to export the jeans we make and get a decent home for our family.
